Before writing anything, i want to mourn for those people who lost their lives in the ‘5.12′ SiChuan earthquake in China. May God’s mercy and love fall upon this land; may He heal all those broken hearts; may all the people in China and even the whole world get together as a unity, to support, to love and to help one another.
We are so small, our strength is so little. We thought we are smart, capable and strong, because human has brought a lot of inventions and made millions of changes to the world, some people are even trying to change the other planets, but can we control the world? Can we overcome the nature? Do we have the power to stop the earthquake, the flood, and the cyclone when they come? We may think we are creators of things in this world, but, how many people will realise that, actually we are not the creators, we are only one of the creations. The control is not in us, but in God, who is the real creator of this world.
Everything happens for a purpose, sometimes we may not understand it, because we may only see a piece of puzzle, but God, who sees the whole picture, will control everything. Whoever follows Him, will understand His purpose in the end.
When this kind of things happen to us, some may feel sad, some may feel hopeless, some may feel painful, some may feel hurt, but i think everyone has learnt a lesson from it. People who didn’t love each other enough, may learn to love; people who didn’t cherish their beloved enough, may learn to cherish; people who didn’t care for the others enough, may learn to care for one another; people who are used to rely on their own strength, may realise that they are so small in this world, because an earthquake can ruin everything that they have, just in a few seconds. How little we are? How short our lives are?
Today i got an email, which said ‘Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile.’ This message asks people to make the best of lives. So as Christians, how can we make the best of our lives? Are we loving all the people around? Can we see the values of them? Are we making a difference to impact the others? Are we having the desire to learn from God? Are we always responding to Him?
Life is short for those people who don’t get the salvation, but it will be everlasting for those people who receive the eternal gift. We have got this gift. But God doesn’t ask us to keep it only for ourselves, He asks us to share it with the people around, so that more and more people will be saved.
Sometimes we are very busy with a lot of other stuffs, we thought we are committed enough to church, we thought we are responsive enough, but we may forget about the most basic thing in christian lives, which is to share the gospel. The other day while i was walking in uni, a Korean girl approached me and tried to share gospel with me, she didn’t know i am a christian, so she tried her best to use english to start a conversation with me, she spoke very slowly,i guess she’s not that used to english, and when i told her that i am also a christian, she’s very happy, from her eyes i could see the joy, which was very pure and innocent. I was very inspired by this girl, even thought her english is not that outstanding, she still stands up to share the gospel, because she chooses to respond to God.
I remember Pastor Wenan once shared a sentence ‘the more willing we are in responding to God, the more willing we are to be moved by God.’ We are called to be His followers and disciple makers.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
